Yellow Corp. revealed its plans to hire at least 1,500 commercial drivers earlier this year, but it’s become clear that’s just a pit stop for the Overland Park-based trucking and logistics company (Nasdaq: YELL).

Formerly known as YRC Worldwide Inc., Yellow is hiring “thousands of new employees nationwide,” according to a series of recent releases touting its hiring events, which are expected to stretch into July and include more than two dozen similar events.

The company, which added nearly 2,000 drivers and dock workers in the first quarter, currently is hiring at more than 275 different locations and plans to fill more than 2,000 driver positions, according to a company spokeswoman.

“Hiring is our No. 1 priority,” Yellow CEO Darren Hawkins said in a recent release. “Our freight professionals serve as the economic lifeline to nearly every community in America. Transportation and trucking people are patriots.”

Major locations that are hiring include: Kansas City; Atlanta; Bloomington, California; Chicago; Columbus, Ohio; Denver; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Indianapolis; Irving, Texas; Maybrook, New York; and Portland, Oregon.

According to the company’s careers page, it has job openings in every major metro in the country and in every state except Alaska and Hawaii.

Locally, Yellow has more than 50 openings at its Overland Park headquarters, including positions in IT, finance, HR/payroll, engineering, inside sales and logistics. It also has two terminals in the Kansas City area, where it is seeking to fill positions like: linehaul driver, local pickup and delivery driver, office/clerical support, dockworker, dock supervisor, mechanic and trainees for its driving academy.

The company also has customer service positions available at some locations.

According to the Kansas City Business Journal‘s Logistics Companies List, Yellow had a little more than 1,600 local full-time-equivalent employees as of September, Nationally, the company has approximately 30,000 employees.

In mid-April, Yellow promoted Darrel Harris to president of the company. He is the first Black man to serve in a top leadership spot (president or CEO) at a major U.S. trucking company.

In addition to his other roles, Harris is working on hiring initiatives with the company’s HR team and will focus on recruitment in underserved communities.
