Office with a View in FOUR WEEKS

The YELLOW CDL Driving Academy –   a key part of YELLOW’s commitment to fighting the national driver shortage – is certified by the nonprofit Professional Truck Driver Institute.

No professional driving experience is required!  Bring a good attitude and a strong work ethic, and we’ll provide the tools to build a great career as a YELLOW Truck Driver.

Getting Started

YELLOW CDL Driving Academies will teach you the skills to be one of the safest drivers on the road. Our instructors, many with a million miles or more of safe driving experience, actively engage all students in the classroom, in the practice yard, and on the road. By joining YELLOW, you’ll attend our Best in Class Truck Driving Academy/Apprenticeship and begin a fulfilling and dynamic career as a truck driver.

After successfully completing the CDL Driving Academy,  you’ll commit to working for a YELLOW company for one year*.

Once you complete the requirements below, you’ll be qualified to enroll in our CDL Driving Academy.

  • Obtain a Class A CDL Permit (student paid)
  • Pass DOT Physical (student paid)
  • Obtain TSA background/fingerprint check for hazardous material endorsement (student paid)
  • Pass a DOT drug test (company paid)
  • Motor Vehicle Report (company paid)

Get Paid to Train:  Four Weeks at a YELLOW CDL Driving Academy

The CDL training program consists of classroom instruction and behind the wheel training with an experienced instructor in preparation for the State Class A CDL Skills and Road Testing. Academy classes meet 8-hours a day, 5-days a week for 4 weeks. Company paid travel and accommodations are provided (if over an hour from home) and you will earn an hourly wage while at the CDL Driving Academy. After successful completion of the Academy, you will test for a Class A CDL with Hazmat, Tanker, and Doubles/Triples endorsements.

Heading Back Home:  Four Weeks of Finishing School at Your Home Terminal

Once you complete the four-week CDL Driving Academy and obtain your CDL and endorsements, you’ll return to your home terminal for another four weeks of on-the-job training.

SPECIAL SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

1.       Must be 21 or older.

2.      Must pass DOT drug test and DOT physical.

3.       Must have a current motor vehicle report (MVR) that represents a history of safe operation.

4.       Must have the ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway and traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, read a bill of lading, and make accurate entries in the daily driving log.

5.       Must be able to follow posted safety rules and safe operating procedures to ensure proper techniques, such as lifting, are performed in the manner in which is described.

6.       Must be able to work various shifts and days of the week.  Ability and willingness to work all scheduled hours, including overtime.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1.     Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirement.

2.     Ability to stand, sit, walk, and maintain balance for extensive periods of time.

3.     Ability to frequently lift up to 55 lbs. from floor to waist level and horizontally, and carry objects up to 100 feet.  Occasionally lift up to 70 lbs. Seldom lift up to 100 lbs.

4.     Ability to push/pull up to 129 lbs. for extended periods of time.

5.     Ability to climb ladders on the tractor and/or trailer(s) and frequently enter and exit the tractor cab.

6.     Ability to perform repetitive tasks; stretch, turn, twist, and reach overhead; bend, crouch, squat, kneel and stoop for extensive periods of time.

7.     Ability to operate a forklift, dolly, hand truck, pallet truck, carts, and other equipment necessary for loading and unloading freight.
