Answers for Drivers

Starting a new career or a new job means you have lots of questions. We asked our driver recruiters what questions candidates ask the most and rounded up their answers here.

How much home time can I expect?

One of our most frequently asked questions concerns home time. We understand that drivers are looking for a job that best the needs of their family. Our recruiters thoroughly discuss your options with you so you can get home to what matters most. As an LTL company, we have the unique opportunity to hire both linehaul and city drivers. When you drive a local route, you’ll be home every night. Our linehaul routes vary by location, but drivers can expect no more than a few days away from home on a weekly basis.

YRC Freight is a union company. What does that mean for me?

Our unionized workforce allows us to provide an awesome and flexible benefits package at no cost to our employees. These benefits include 100% paid health insurance for you and your family, retirement plans, sick/vacation/holiday pay, and more.

What endorsements do I need to be considered for a driving position, and how do I get them?

YRC Freight drivers are required to possess Tanker and Hazmat endorsements. Not all driving school students graduate with these, so our recruiters are prepared to walk you through the process step-by-step.

Drivers for YRC Freight are also required to be endorsed for doubles and triples. However, since YRC Freight is part of a nationwide network of freight companies, our recruiters can help you find opportunities with our other brands that don’t require this endorsement.

What makes YRC Freight a good place to start my new driving career?

We’re incredibly proud of our efforts to create the next generation of drivers. We work with local driving schools as well as our own internal tuition-free CDL Academy┬áto fill the growing number of seats left behind by retiring drivers. While most carriers don’t hire recent graduates, YRC Freight invests in training new drivers for a safe career on the road with up to 4 weeks of additional paid training after graduation.
